I’m Martina Gutiérrez. I’m an exchange student from Madrid, Spain. And despite being in a new country, with a completely different environment, at Newburyport High School I have felt welcome.
When I arrived I was very confused because everything is very different from Spain, the people, the school, the teachers, the classes, the language… Also I didn't know anyone!
But, little by little I started to get used to the classes and I started to meet more people. This helped me a lot to adapt. Now I've been here for three weeks and I feel much more comfortable and happy. I've started to make friends and I'm understanding how the classes work.
Also, it’s not just me as I've met other exchange students, who will be here this Fall and they agree that this is an exciting place to be, despite the challenges.
Not to mention the students here have all helped me a lot. They have helped me in understanding the classes and the school in general, and even offered me to join the BC2M club.
I'm very excited to meet new people and do different activities as the year goes by.
